About Tinnitus Page

Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of a corresponding external stimulus. Often described as ‘ringing in the ears’, many people will have experienced tinnitus at some stage in their lives. 1 in 10 adults live with tinnitus, with 1% of the population reporting significant issues such as anxiety, sleep deprivation and depression as a result of the condition.

Tinnitus is not a disease or a syndrome but rather a complex condition with many causes, symptoms and secondary complications. Tinnitus presents in many forms and a multi-disciplinary approach is generally recommended for its diagnosis and treatment.

If you are experiencing tinnitus symptoms it is wise to consult your doctor. For additional information on tinnitus contact your national tinnitus association.
